Sandy, Patty and Marie |
My buddy Dean pushed me to a faster time. |
Yesterday was a perfect day. I got up, ate tuna on toast, had coffee and headed over to the south side for the Run for the Whales 5K in Wailea. The course was a fun rolling small hill loop with views of the ocean. The weather was cool and the crowd was jolly, despite shuttle buses going to the wrong location, causing some runners to miss the start. My friends Patty and Sandy, who I was supposed to run with, got on a bus that broke down so they were late starting. I guess I wouldn't have been very happy if that happened to me but I arrived early enough to drive right to the start so i didn't get caught in the fray. I placed 8th out of 27 in my division and finished under 30 minutes. I was very happy with that since I had been wicked sick with the flu just the week before. After the race I jumped in the calm, clear sea to cool down.
Later in the day I hopped aboard Ali'i Nui for a whale watch and was treated to an amazing show of mamas and babies breaching, pec fin slapping and fluke up diving for 2 solid hours. Then the hydrophone went into the water for a chorus of whale song.
After arriving home starving I raced down to Flatbread with my buddy Sunette for a hot pork and pineapple pizza and an ice cold beer. Perfect topping for a perfect day.
I love Maui. I love my life.
