3 miles on sand?

I signed up for a half marathon in March. Iao Valley to the Sea. Wailuku to Kihei in 13.1 miles. I was excited about the race because it's all downhill and flat. My kind of terrain, being the lazy runner I am. Well, I just found out that the last 3 miles are along the beach! Yikes. So this morning I headed down to Baldwin beach to run in the sand. When I got there the sky was still sunrise pink with wispy clouds. An undulating haze of salt mist hovered above the ground lending an ethereal feel to the morning and filling my lungs with healing briny goodness. I only did a couple of rounds of the beach, up and down, up and down. After all, I have a full day of work and a kettle bell class later. Left over ribs for breakfast, another cup of coffee and I'm good to go. I love to run, even in sand.
