Happy Holidays all. I hope you are all happy, healthy and staying sane this season. I thought I’d bring you up to date on my training for the Everest Trek and my fundraising efforts for BCF.
Yesterday I ran a 10k Christmas Fun Run and placed 2nd in my division! I’m not sure how many women were in the division so 2nd might not be all that impressive (I tend to run pretty slowly) but there were at least 3 of us so I know I beat someone. Luckily high altitude trekking and mountain climbing are slow motion sports. There’s no racing to the top so I’m well suited to the plodding adventure. I’m trail running in the forest for some medium altitude work, 2500-3500 feet, and still heading up to Haleakala Crater for the more intense workouts at 7000-8000 feet. I’ve been taking a lot of classes at the gym this year to supplement my running workouts. The kettle bells are still my favorites but I’ve also started a fusion fit class which is a circuit training session using spin bikes, rowing machines, rings and various other implements of torture. And then there is the pole dancing. You might be surprised at what a good workout that can be; although at times I get dizzy spinning around and around that thing.
So my days are pretty filled with workouts and eating enough to quell the appetite I work up but I’m also focusing on the fundraising. Again this year it’s starting off slowly, I’m up to about $2600. I can’t stress enough that ANY amount is a help. I know some people are reluctant to donate because they only have a few dollars to spare, but if just 50 people donate $5 each that’s $250 right there. I’m going to be hosting my annual event at the local pizza joint in March. They generously donate a portion of all pizza sales that night and I also hold a silent auction. This event has been very successful in the past so I’m confident of making my goal of $5000 but of course, I’d like to surpass that goal and get to the $10,000 I’ve been able to raise in past years.
I’d like to thank all of you who have donated this year and remind those of you who haven’t that you still have time. The deadline for donations is April 1st but remember, if you donate before the end of the year you can deduct it on this year’s tax return.
I wish you all a happy and prosperous holiday season. Hope to hear from you soon.
