Every hike is different. No matter how many times I go into the crater I never have the same experience twice. This trip we did a little bushwhacking, reaching the park perimeter. When I come home with scratches on my legs from scrambling through bushes I feel like I've had a good hike. Thanks to Jeremy, my new hiking buddy, I also got an extra workout going up the switchbacks. Being the gentleman that he is he offered for both of us to switch packs with some weary campers who were heading up. We made friends for life by turning over our daypacks in exchange for their cumbersome loads. We had a blast and at the top were fed chocolate cake for our efforts.
