Wet Mud Run!
I finally had a Saturday morning free and my fellow Booty Hike/Run buddies bailed because of rain. I had been looking forward to getting out on the trail as a break from frantically packing for my move to Mill Valley so I headed out alone. I donned my rain coat, hat and my dirtiest pair of designated mud running shoes and headed up the 196 stairs of Hill Path above my house in Corte Madera. I continued up Redwood Ave to Summit and found another set of stairs filled with debris and minor landslides on each step, a river running down them. Beside them a small creek gushed and gurgled under the trees. It's so good to see and smell water again. I slogged up, up, up Summit Ave until I hit the entrance to Camino Alto open space at the top of the ridge. From there I slipped and slid down again, up again, walking more than jogging so I wouldn't fall on my ass. I had no idea where I was but eventually recognized a trail off to the side that I had hiked up before. It led to a familiar fire road that was level where I could actually run. This is where the mud comes in. It was puddlesome fun splashing down the road, soaking my feet and giggling like a kid. When I came back down the steps there was a bright, stunning rainbow spanning the sky, trees were aflame with autumn reds, browns and yellows. The air smelled like damp fresh earth and I was grinning from ear to ear. The photos I shot were done through a ziplock bag because Lifeproof doesn't make a case for iPhone 6 yet. Excuse the poor quality of the images but you get the idea. What a perfect start to a Saturday!
