Last Workout before my Journey

Tomorrow I leave for Ladakh. 14 other intrepid trekkers traverse the globe with me on an adventure to the far flung reaches of the Tibetan plateau, to raise money for the Breast Cancer Fund. But this morning, I contemplated the 36 hours of plane travel ahead of me and decided I needed some exercise even though I was quite sore from my kettle bell workout with Tree at Upcountry Fitness last night. First off, a quick stop at Maui Cyclery in Paia to have the ever helpful Nathan fix my odometer for me. Then a leisurely cruise on my sweet Abici road bike to Kahului via the bike path behind the airport. The highlight of the ride was a mongoose racing out in front of me causing me to swerve to avoid hitting the bugger. Then on the return ride, at the exact same corner, coming across from the other side was the mongoose again jumping in front of me. I swear it was the same mongoose. I think he was bored and so was playing chicken with passing cyclists. A misty rain kept me cool while I cranked into a fierce headwind back into Paia. Once home I grabbed my goggles and swim cap and headed to Spreckelsville. I ran up and down Baldwin Beach then swam several laps through seaweed and choppy seas. Headed home again to mow, weed eat and stow away my surf board and bike for my 3 week absence. Later a superb massage from Rebecca helped sooth my aching rhomboids and sartorius and dinner at Kula Bistro with my brother in law Ray sated my growling belly. All in all a pretty satisfying day. Now I'm home, the last night in my own bed for awhile. But I love my super cozy sleeping bag and sleeping in tents and I love being on the trail at high altitude with amazing views and amazing people. Stay tuned for photos and stories.
